Comparison
BPC-157 vs TB-500
BPC-157 and TB-500 are the two best-known “repair” peptides and are usually discussed together. They are unrelated molecules with different origins and mechanisms.

How they work
BPC-157
No single receptor has been identified. Animal and cell studies point to several mechanisms:
- Angiogenesis — upregulation of VEGFR2 and the nitric-oxide pathway, improving blood supply to injured tissue.
- Growth hormone receptor expression in tendon fibroblasts, increasing their response to growth signals.
- FAK–paxillin signalling, which drives fibroblast migration and spreading into wounds.
- Interaction with the nitric-oxide system that may explain its gut-protective and blood-pressure effects in rodents.
It is unusually stable in gastric juice, which is why rodent studies often gave it in drinking water.
TB-500
Tβ4 is the main actin-sequestering molecule in cells. By controlling the pool of free actin it regulates how cells move, which is central to wound repair. It also promotes new blood-vessel formation, reduces inflammation and was shown in mice to mobilise heart progenitor cells after injury. Its N-terminal fragment Ac-SDKP has separate anti-fibrotic effects.
Side effects compared
BPC-157
Rodent toxicology studies reported no lethal dose and no obvious organ toxicity. That does not establish human safety. Specific concerns researchers raise:
- Its pro-angiogenic action could, in theory, support the blood supply of existing tumours — untested in humans.
- Reports from users include injection-site reactions, nausea, dizziness and changes in blood pressure.
- Unregulated products may be under-dosed, contaminated or mislabelled; independent tests of online BPC-157 have found significant variation.
TB-500
In the intravenous phase 1 study, Tβ4 caused no dose-limiting toxicity. Reported effects from non-clinical use include headache, lethargy and injection-site irritation. As with other pro-angiogenic peptides, there is a theoretical concern about effects on existing tumours.
Bottom line
TB-500's parent molecule has more human data; BPC-157 has a larger volume of animal studies on musculoskeletal injury. The two are combined as the Wolverine stack, but the combination has not been studied.
